The last visit visit to the Zoo had been more that fifteen years ago. But out of the blue A. suggested a quick visit during the weekend. Nothing was arranged otherwise, so we went to the Jardim Zoológico de Lisboa.
The only thing that wasn’t new was the location. Placed well inside the city of Lisbon, it provides some green shades to the city and rest to the visitors. The rest was new, everything seamed to be different from what I remembered. We had a good time visiting tigers, elephants and giraffes. The aqua show was fantastic with the sea lions and dolphins. With some luck we escaped the few drops of rains that fallen during the lunch hour, by being inside the restaurant, and returned to our visit right after.
The last post was so long ago that it’s hard to remember. Usually, the lack of posts comes associated with some huge amount of work. I could say that this is another example how my work takes to much of my own time, but that would not be completely true. In fact, I have been working long hours but the main reason for not having time to write is another…
I don’t see myself has a sysadmin, but I like to do my own experiments… like building a file sharing server (one that no one will hever use), having a wireless network in place (to be used once every month by a computer that could easily be connected using a wired connection) or mounting a home theater PC (an placing the old computer box in the living room and understanding that it really looks ugly and out-of-place).
No, this time it wasn’t one of “my crazy” projects. I just decided to learn a new language… I didn’t actually decided it! Let’s just say that Python started to grow on me. And front my point of view, Python is far better that bash script or perl or any other scripting language out there. With it you can do the simplest things, like inspecting some file’s content or you can do the most complex procedure (including, for example, DB access).
A friend talked about Python with me, and for someone with background in C/C++ and some bash script, Python turned out to be really (REALLY!) simple. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and I already converted all my ‘~/bin’ scripts to Python.
My real interest began after finding “Python for Unix and Linux System Administration” and reading this really hands-on and example based ‘introduction’.
Economy is really not my thing. I really don’t what to know much about anything associated with economy, but this cartoon made me laugh (and think) for a while.
(It’s not mine, I took it from somewhere on the web, and unfortunatelly didn’t keep the author for reference.)
Yesterday, I took my camera to the company and just keep pressing the little round button on top of it!
It was a long time ago I did it, and it felt as very good. I’ll have to do it more often… I’m actually considering to trade my lunch for a simple sandwich, and use my lunch hour to take some pictures around Parque das Nações. I bet the place has same great spot to take some quality pictures!
The photo on the right was one of many I took during the journey…
The subject is the escalators that provide access to the train platform. I was down stairs shooting “in the dark” and upstairs the sun was too strong…
For those how don’t know, Rock in Rio is a music festival originally designed in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil (which explains the name of the event). However, it has become an international phenomena capable to move crowds of people in Brazil, Portugal and also Spain.
The last event was in Lisbon, with a well known slogan “Eu Vou” which means “I’ll Go”. So, what I have to say is… I Went!
A. bought the tickets and dragged me and [the little] A. with her. We didn’t stay to the end, because it would be late for [the little] A., but it was a very good experience.
The place was stacked with people, but the sound was good and the stage had huge side screens for the shorter ones [little A.]. I hope to repeat the experience as soon has possible.
Let me just start by saying that “I love to be a computer programmer!”…
Yes, I also enjoy all the other stuff related with computers, but my main drive is pick up a problem, find an algorithm to solve it and then put it to work (programming like craky…)! One way to improve these skills is to solve programming problems.
There’s an excelent site where that is possible and simple. Just subscribe to the UVa Online Judge, select one of many problems available and submit your solution. Problem’s difficulty range from very easy to extremely difficult.
